IF Elfsborg secured a vital away win in the Allsvenskan. The Borås-based side defeated Djurgårdens IF 2-1 at Tele2 Arena in round 22.
Rasmus Wikström opened the scoring just before half-time. In the 44th minute he found the net to give Elfsborg a lead they took into the break. Djurgården fought back in the second half. Jacob Une Larsson equalised to make it 1-1 following a pass from Kristian Strømland Lien.
The response came ten minutes later. Simon Olsson decided the match for Elfsborg in the 76th minute. Alexander Jensen provided the assist and Olsson struck home for 2-1. It was his first goal of the season.
Elfsborg manager Björn Hamberg received a yellow card for dissent late in the match. His team then held on to secure the three points. The victory strengthens Elfsborg's hold on fourth place in the Allsvenskan. They now have 37 points from 22 games.
The team's top scorer Leo Östman, who has six goals this season, started the match but was substituted in the 75th minute. Per Frick remains injured and was absent from the squad. Elfsborg are now on a two-game winning run with a recent form of three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five.
Their next fixture is a home match against Halmstad on October 11th. Elfsborg's squad shows a broad squad that has now delivered on a difficult away trip.
