IF Elfsborg have completed the signing of defender Nathalie Andersson. The 23-year-old local player put pen to paper on January 23rd, joining the club on a free transfer for the remainder of the season.
Who is Nathalie Andersson?
Nathalie Andersson is a homecoming. Born and raised in Borås, she has a background in several local clubs including Brämhults IK, Sjömarkens IF and Bergdalens IK. Her entire family supports Elfsborg, and she herself was part of the club's Girls' Academy when she was younger. "It's special to come to Elfsborg, it feels like home." Andersson told SvenskaFans.com.
Head coach Ismet Tursic, who also coached Andersson in the academy, sees her as a flexible addition. "Nathalie is a defender who covers all four positions in the back line. An athletic and strong player who ticks all our boxes," said Tursic. Andersson will wear the number 3 on the yellow Elfsborg jersey.
Where does she fit into the current squad?
Elfsborg currently sit in fourth place in Allsvenskan with 31 points from 19 games. The team is in strong form with five matches unbeaten (WDWWW) and has conceded only 19 goals, one of the best defensive records in the league. The reinforcement of the backline with Andersson comes at a time when the squad is also missing Per Frick through injury, which you can track on our injuries page.
Andersson is already familiar with several players in the squad, which could speed up her integration. Her arrival gives coach Tursic more options in a defence that has already proven solid. The team's squad now has broader coverage for the tough run-in to the season.
