IF Elfsborg has sent striker Frederik Ihler on loan to Dutch club FC Volendam. The agreement includes an option for the Dutch side to make the move permanent.
The 23-year-old Dane leaves the Borås club after making 47 appearances since joining from Molde in March 2025. During that time, he scored ten goals and provided two assists. This season, Ihler has played 14 matches, starting six, contributing two goals and one assist. The move to the Eerste Divisie club is now pending a medical examination and contract signing.
The decision to loan out Frederik Ihler comes while IF Elfsborg holds a solid fourth place in Allsvenskan. The team has 31 points from 19 rounds, with eight wins, seven draws, and four losses.
Despite the positive table position, the coaching staff has assessed that Ihler has limited playing time prospects in the full squad setup. A loan gives the player a chance for regular match practice at a high level. "Frederik Ihler has scored two goals and one assist in 14 matches for IF Elfsborg this season." The limited productivity relative to the competition for forward positions has likely influenced the decision.
Aside from FC Volendam, there was concrete interest in Ihler from elsewhere. Danish club Silkeborg showed appreciation for the Dane, and a club from Poland was also interested. In the end, however, it was the Dutch second-tier club that secured an agreement.
According to Expressen's information, the Borås club has agreed with FC Volendam, which plays in the Dutch second tier, on a loan with an option to buy. The deal could become official in the coming days if no unforeseen issues arise during the final medical checks.
The absence of Ihler will create more space for other forwards in Jimmy Thelin's squad. The team has shown solid offense this season with 27 goals scored in 19 matches, while the defense has only conceded 19. The positive goal difference of +8 is a key part of the success formula.
One player already missing is Per Frick, who is currently injured. You can always keep track of the current injury list via our injuries page. With Ihler gone and Frick injured, pressure increases on the remaining offensive options ahead of the tough matches to come.
Focus for the Borås team is now fully directed towards the top-of-the-table clash away against league leaders Sirius on October 18th. Elfsborg trails Sirius by eleven points in the table, making the upcoming match an opportunity to close the gap. All information about upcoming matches is on our fixtures page.
Jimmy Thelin and his staff now have several weeks to prepare the team for the important away fixture. The loan of Ihler also likely frees up financial resources and a squad place that can be used strategically. IF Elfsborg's next match is away against Sirius on October 18, 2026.
