IF Elfsborg face important contract decisions in the coming years. A review of the squad shows several experienced players have deals expiring after the 2026 season.

The club, currently fourth in Allsvenskan with 34 points, has a mix of experience and youth in its ranks. Their most recent match was a 1-0 win over Kalmar FF last weekend. The team's next fixture is a key away match against third-placed Djurgårdens IF at Stockholms Stadion on September 20. Djurgården have taken 13 points from their last five home matches in Allsvenskan.

Contracts ending in 2026

After 2026, the contracts of a number of key players are up. In defence, the deals for Sebastian Holmén and Niklas Hult expire. Holmén, 34, is a central defender with vast experience. Hult, 36, has been a steady presence at left-back.

In goal, both Isak Pettersson, 29, and Lucas Hägg Johansson, 32, have contracts until the end of 2026. Up front, veteran Per Frick, 34, is another whose current deal is coming to an end.

The two loaned midfielders Julius Beck and Momoh Kamara, both 21, also have loans ending with an option for the club to buy.

Long deals for young talents

On the other hand, IF Elfsborg have secured several young talents on long-term contracts. Many of them run until 2029 or even 2030.

In defence, Viggo Elfström, 19, and Jonathan Esenga, 19, are contracted until 2030. Midfielder Ossian Nordvall, also 19, is tied down in the same way. Another player, Naramsin Staifo, has a deal running to 2030.

A large group of players are bound until 2029. This includes midfielders Simon Olsson, 28, and Julius Magnusson, 28, as well as defenders Rufai Mohammed, 20, and Rasmus Wikström, 25. Forwards Frederik Ihler, 23, and Taylor Silverholt, 25, also have these long-term agreements.

The future in midfield

In midfield, the club has invested heavily in youth. Altti Hellemaa, 22, is tied to 2029. The same applies for the younger midfielders Oladimeji Abdulmuiz, 18, and Ozor Victor Okeke, 20, whose deals run until the summer of 2029. Wenderson, 27, also has a contract until summer 2029.

On the wing, Ari Sigurpálsson, 23, and Gottfrid Rapp, 21, are both bound until 2029. Another young forward, Gabríel Snaer Gunnarsson, 18, has a deal until summer 2029.

Other key players

Some players have agreements expiring in 2027 or 2028. Goalkeeper Tim Erlandsson, 29, and right-back Ludvig Richtnér, 21, are contracted until 2027. The same is true for winger Arber Zeneli, 31.

Until 2028, midfielder Marcus Rohdén, 35, and defender Thomas Isherwood, 28, are secured. Winger Simon Hedlund, 33, and forward Dion Krasniqi, 23, also have deals running to 2028.

Right-back Alexander Jensen, 25, and goalkeeper Theo Sander, 21, have contracts until the summer of 2030. Forward Leo Östman, 20, is tied to 2027. Östman is the club's top scorer this season with six goals.

The club therefore has a stable core for the coming seasons, but also needs to plan for replacing the experience that could depart after 2026. The team's squad page shows the entire roster and their contract lengths. The league table can be followed in standings.
