IF Elfsborg have received a substantial financial windfall from a former player's transfer. Alexander Bernhardsson's move to Wolfsburg generated a fee of several million kronor for the Allsvenskan club.

"Really fun, absolutely. You try to give back to all clubs if it's possible. Now Elfsborg get some money they can play with," Bernhardsson told Fotbollskanalen. The 28-year-old midfielder left Holstein Kiel for Wolfsburg this summer, signing a contract until 2029. The total transfer fee was reported to be around 55 million kronor, with an estimated 7-9 million of that going to Elfsborg due to a sell-on clause.

The funds provide a welcome financial boost for Elfsborg, who currently sit fourth in the Allsvenskan table with 37 points. Club chief Stefan Andreasson now has greater scope to act in the transfer market. "It's money they can have a little fun with," Bernhardsson noted.

The club has already been active with loan deals this season, including Tim Erlandsson to Norway and Rufai Mohammed to Italy. The financial flexibility from the Bernhardsson deal could be used to secure key contract extensions or scout new talents. One full-back in the squad has already confirmed that negotiations for a new deal are ongoing.

The team's strong form, with four wins in their last five matches, shows the need to maintain a competitive squad. Their latest victory came away to Djurgården on September 20, a match decided by goals from Rasmus Wikström and Simon Olsson. The next challenge is a home fixture against Halmstad on October 11, a team currently bottom of the table. Fans can check the full fixtures list and view the squad on the club's official pages.

With a stable league position and increased financial resources, the future looks bright for IF Elfsborg. The aim is to build on the positive development both on and off the pitch.
