IF Elfsborg's midfielder Besfort Zeneli has been selected for Sweden's World Cup squad. He shares his feelings about the World Cup and talks about his time at IF Elfsborg. IF Elfsborg's players have a break for a couple of weeks and on the other side of the Atlantic, the summer's World Cup is approaching. One of the players who will represent Sweden in the World Cup is former Elfsborg player Besfort Zeneli. – It's still a bit of an incredible feeling and of course a dream that's coming true. Since I was little, there has been a dream of playing for my country, playing in the World Cup, so it's almost bigger than it can be taken in. The former Elfsborg midfielder jumped into the match that made Sweden World Cup-qualified, in the playoff final at home against Poland in the spring. The decisive goal was scored by Viktor Gyökeres in the final minutes after Zeneli had hit the post. When the World Cup squad was to be taken out a couple of weeks later, on May 12, the selection was followed with suspense. – I wasn't 100% sure if I would be included and followed the broadcast from Belgium. I hadn't been told anything beforehand, so it was clear that it was a bit nerve-wracking. When my name was finally read out, last of all, it was a relief and a great joy. There are people with strong Elfsborg connections in the World Cup squad, including current manager Björn Hamberg, who is the assistant coach, and former goalkeeper coach Linus Kandolin, who is also in the coaching staff. Besfort Zeneli has also played with both Gustaf Lagerbielke and Alexander Bernhardsson in the yellow and black before the trio left for foreign countries. Anthony Elanga also played in the Elfsborg jersey during his youth years. – We often talk about Elfsborg when we're on our way with the national team; me, 'Berra' and Lagerbielke. About the time we had together, it's a pride around what we've done and the journey we're making now in Europe. Meeting up in a World Cup together is big for both us and Elfsborg. Björn Hamberg took over as manager for IF Elfsborg about two months after Zeneli left the club. The midfielder has followed the matches this spring and is positive about the development in the team so far this season. – I've had a chance to talk a bit about Elfsborg with Björn in connection with a dinner here in the national team. I see what he's done with the team and like how it looks. It'll be exciting to continue following and I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen from now on. What do you think about the future for IF Elfsborg this year? – I think they'll be in a good position! It's hard to say exactly, but somewhere in the top. Björn has started to get in a bit how he wants the team to look and I'm sure it will get better and better. I hope they can be in the top and fight. Besfort Zeneli left IF Elfsborg for play in Belgian Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in January and has had a eventful first half of the year in his new club. The team did not quite reach the top in the league but finished second, but in the cup competition it went better. The team won the cup final against Anderlecht with 3-1 after extra time. Besfort was also named Player of the Month in the Belgian league for his performances in March. – It's been a good time so far. When I first came there, I had been on vacation recently and was a bit behind in training. Both the club and the coach gave me time to catch up and get back on track, and then I got the chance and took it. – I've had a slightly more offensive position than I had in Elfsborg. It's felt good and I've made a few points, so it's been flowing well. It ended with a second place in the league and a win in the cup.
